Holographic Product Customization

Holographic Product Customization

Here is the result of some evening and weekend coding.
The user controls a product in 3D and customizes using her smart phone.

The installation can be built in a store or an event. By-passers gets the chance to play with the product and customize it, even if the store is closed or there is no personnel. There is no need to install an extra application, so it helps the user get engaged faster.

The user controls are all in the web browser. The phone is communicating with the installation using web sockets over NodeJS. The holographic display is projecting a Unity3D content, which is listening to the NodeJS server for comments from the phone.

The company I work for, Quince Amsterdam, prepared this video. If you want to see earlier stages of this project you can read the blog post “Before and After and After“.
